West World Review

January 25, 2017

Welcome to the Westworld.  A place to live without limits. Come and enjoy our wild west theme park filled with our special “hosts” that can help make every fantasy and wish come true.

Westworld is just as addicting for viewers as it is for park-goers.

The season follows the host, Dolores, (Evan Rachel Wood) as she decides to set out to discover who she is.  Through intricate and thoughtful story lines, we experience the evolution of AI androids  and their consciousness.  Androids that make us question the very nature of what it means to be human. Dolores is not the only storyline we explore.

We also follow Mauve (Thandie Newton), a Madame in the saloon, as she discovers that her world is a lie. Watching her learn what she is, how she disseminates her new knowledge and puts it to action, is a treat in itself.  Yet again, HBO is able to weave a great story amidst action, adventure, and mystery.

Throughout the season there are several hair pulling questions. Who is the Man in Black? What is the new storyline Ford is working on? Will Dolores find what she is searching for? Plus, we are questioning our own ethics and humanity.

With the incredible acting by the cast, it is no surprise that the show was nominated for tons of awards (Golden Globes, Critic’s Choice, SAGs, etc)  It is also the most watched first season of any HBO original series ever.   *Hint hint* Watch the show.

If you are ready to dive into a world where an android can be indistinguishable from a human, then take the Black Ridge Train into Westworld.  You can still marathon before season 2... but beware…as they say in Westworld, “These violent delights have violent ends.”
